Alan McRoy Obituary
Alan McRoy, the son of the late Carl and Elva (Garner) McRoy, was born on November 7, 1954, in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life on September 8, 2025, at Gideon Care Center. He was 70 years old.
Alan grew up in the Cotton Belt and was a graduate of Dexter High School, class of 1973. After graduation he took on the world and moved to Columbia where he picked up a hammer and never looked back. He learned carpentry and this help fuel his ‘build bigger, stronger” sense of life. He loved building houses but moved back to Dexter after the passing of his father. He took up a chip delivery for Lays to make ends meet, which led to back problems that would bother him until the end. Alan went into lumber sales for the former Riverside Lumber in Sikeston, until becoming a night shift supervisor on the former nightshift of WW Woods. He would later try his hand in behavioral health, farming, and then earning his CDL. He drove a truck for almost 25 years, until his health got in the way.
He was a dad, Granddad, a hunter and a wood worker/ furniture maker. As a hunter he would always look forward to dove hunting and deer season. When his kids moved from the home his hunting priorities shifted, and he wasn’t to hunt as much. But when his grandkids came of age, he was able to go hunting with them. He didn’t have much spare time, but when he did, he worked on building wooden primitive furniture, shelves, birdhouses, and other wooden crafts.
His legacy will carry on with his family, daughter Alana Sue Davis and her husband Jeff of Dexter, son Miko McRoy and his wife Jaime of Medora, Indiana, grandchildren, Alexander McRoy, Brianna Wright and her husband Tommy, Jr., Mikalyn McRoy and her fiancé Sam Allman, and Bryson McRoy, and two great-grandchildren, Ava Lynn and Avery Layne Wright and his best friend Dean Bishop.
He was preceded by his parents, wife Pollyanna (York) McRoy, sister Shirley Acton and her husband Dwayne, and a nephew Tony Acton.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 12 noon until 3:00 pm.
