Alta Lucille (Imlay) Cruse Obituary

Alta Lucille (Imlay) Cruse, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026 at the Majestic Care of North Vernon. She was 79 years old.

Alta entered this life on October 6, 1946, in Seymour, Indiana. She was the daughter of William and Lucille (Blair) Imlay.  She was the sister to Bev, Bonnie, Wilbur, Bill, and Jim. She grew up in the Cortland area and attended Cortland School before moving to Medora.  She entered the workforce shortly after moving to Medora and travelled the states wherever her job may have taken her.

She was a private inspector in Phoenix during the seventies and then returned to Medora to raise her family in a small town instead of the big city. She would go to work for Rose Acres for a few years, before her travelling nature called her to see the country. She decided to become a truck driver for Don Sumptner Trucking. She was able to travel and see the States on her own terms. After she left Sumptner Trucking she went to IWX Trucking and then Mount Trucking from which she retired from.

She was the loving mother to Richard, Jaclyn, and Daniel, and Mo-Mo to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alta was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Seymour, and a member of the American Legion of Seymour.  She loved a good fishing hole, sewing, and she could often be found clogging out on the dance floor at a social event.

Her memories will be cherished by her family, son Dan Duncan and his wife Jennifer of Brownstown, and daughter Jacklyn Duncan of Warsaw, MO, grandchildren Cody Smith, Ryan Smith, Kendra Smith, Macy Stalcup and her husband Nick, Rachelle Kilpatrick and her husband Jason, Nicholas Duncan, and Destiny Duncan, eight great-grandchildren, a brother Wilbur Imlay of Medora, and two sisters, Bev Weddle of Cortland, and Bonnie Coffelt of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her son Richard Cruse, and two brothers William “Bill” Imlay and James “Jim” Imlay.

Visitation will be conducted on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home.

A private graveside service will be conducted at White River Valley Cemetery
