Alvona (Begley) Hackman, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 30, 2023, at Schneck Medical Center. She was 89 years old.
Alvona (also known as Tony) married Omer Hackman on June 17, 1956, at Sauers Lutheran Church, Seymour, IN. Later she and Omer joined St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Brownstown, IN, where they worshiped their remaining years.
Alvona graduated from the Spencerian Commercial School in Louisville with a Private Secretarial degree in 1955. After marriage, she and Omer enjoyed building their family farm together. Alvona was an expert seamstress, gardener, and homemaker. After her children had grown, she enjoyed many years working at Rose Acre Farms in Seymour.
Her family remembers that she always put her faith and family first. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She was a beautiful soul that touched and enriched many lives.
She is survived by her loving children: Son, Jeff (Paula) Hackman of Brownstown. Daughter, Darla (Gary) Abosch of Millsboro, DE. Grandchildren include Jennifer Lockhart and Daniel Hackman of Brownstown, IN; Elizabeth Abosch of Champaign, IL; A Great-Grandchild Lennon Lockhart of Brownstown; Siblings, Carol Sue (Ken) Bush, Linda (Philip) Barnes, and Tom (Rhonda) Begley.
Alvona was preceded in death by her husband Omer Hackman on February 26, 2021, her brothers William L. Begley, and Jerry D Begley, her father Clay (Nettie) Begley, and Mother Retha "Burke" (Forest) Brandenburg.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 pm on November 2, 2023, at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brownstown, with Pastor Ryan Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Brownstown.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00AM until time of the service at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be written in Alvona’s name to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
Final arrangements have been entrusted to Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown.
