Dorothy May Darlage, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Lutheran Community Home on March 4, 2019.
Dorothy entered this life on May 9, 1926, in Seymour, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Albert and Mathilda (Hageman) Hackman. She was baptized at St. John’s Sauers Lutheran Church on May 23, 1926, and was confirmed on March 17, 1940, by Pastor Meyer. On May 4, 1947, she married Arthur J. Darlage, and they were united at St. John’s Sauers Lutheran church by Pastor A.A. Mueller. This blessed marriage of 52 years brought two daughters, Sue and Debra. Art preceded Dorothy on February 10, 2000.
Dorothy was a loving mother and Grandma D or Ga-ga D to her family. This love of her family was a blessing she enjoyed the most. She embroidered for each of her grandkids their own bedspreads.
Dorothy retired from Brownstown Central High School as a Teacher’s Aide. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Altar Guild, and assisted with the mailing of the church’s monthly newsletter. Dorothy served as a Brownie Leader and a Pet and Hobby leader. She enjoyed her time at the Lutheran Home visiting with her friends and the staff. Dorothy could be found playing Bingo or at any social event at the Lutheran Home.
She will be missed by her daughters: Sue A. (Lawrence) Claycamp and Debra L. (Harry) Rochner; six grandchildren: Matthew (Lindsey) Rochner, Heidi (Andrew) Thayer, Lindsi (Wil) Andersen, Scott Klakamp, Jeffrey (Melanie) Klakamp, Christopher (Amanda) Klakamp; sixteen great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Ivy, and Lucy Rochner, Harrison and Hadley Thayer, Ava and Max Andersen, Hunter (Holly Dickson) Klakamp, Kiah (Jacob) Ellis, Conner, Cameron, Curry, and Maia Klakamp, and Kelis, Giovannie, and Carter; and three great-great-grandchildren; Veda Barton, Scarlett and Oliver Ellis, and two sister-in-laws: Helen Kellermeier and Mildred Teulker, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother Howard Hackman.
Funeral Service will be conducted by Zabel Funeral Home at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeremy Yeadon officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown on Thursday, March 7, 2019, from 4:00-8:00 pm and on Friday after 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, Lutheran Community Home, or Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or donor’s choice.
