Fairie Thompson Obituary

Fairie Janet Thompson, of Vallonia, passed away on the early morning of February 22, 2026, at Hoosier Health & Living of Brownstown. She was 89.

Janet entered this life in Washington County, Indiana near New Philadelphia on December 29, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Glen and Edna Mae (Woods) Dismore. The family moved to Vallonia about 1939 when her father went to work for Bundy Bros. Mill Fleet Garage. She attended Vallonia School and graduated in 1954. After graduating, she went to work at the Jacobson & Son Shirt Factory for a year, before going to work at Sarkes Tarzian Company in Bloomington until her marriage. She was united in marriage to Francis Frederick Baute of Jonesville, Indiana on March 9, 1957, and then remarried to George Atwood Thompson of Maine on December 20, 1969, at Mooresville Christian Church in Mooresville, Indiana. George and Janet moved to Maine in 1970, living in Bethel, Freeman, and West Gardiner. In 1981 they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and in 1983 to Benson, Arizona where they worked on a private movie set as caretakers for John Ashley Gammons III.

While living in Maine and Arizona, Janet and George compiled and wrote “A Genealogical History of Freeman, Maine, and published in 1996. They were the founding members #9 of the Maine Genealogical Society and members of the Strong Historical Society. Both her and George wrote for Maine Life Magazine. After the passing of George, Janet moved back to Indiana, then Maine, and retiring back to her home state of Indiana, moving to Medora in 2011.

She is survived by her children, Kimberly (Baute) Patterson/Hamilton and her husband Stephen, Diana (Baute) White, Gary Baute and Alan Baute, her brothers, Richard Dismore and his wife Lony, Sister Glenda (Dismore)Greathouse and her husband Richard. Sister-in-law Betty Dismore, grandchildren, Naomi Patterson, Tracy Patterson, Travis Patterson, Justin White and his wife Christain, Josh Banister, Trisha (Baute) Robertson, Joseph Baute, Michaela Baute, Hannah (Baute) Walker and her husband Shane, Kristina Baute, Christopher Baute, and Bethany Baute, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her father Ernest in 1980, Mother Edna in 1994, husband George in 1999, a grandson Daryl White in 2010, and her brother Raymond on February 19, 2025.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be conducted in the spring and will be announced at a later date.  She will be buried at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine with her beloved George.
