Obituary

Jewell Lorraine (Hackman) Ratekin, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of November 23, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 72 years old.

Jewell entered this life in Seymour, Indiana on November 13, 1950. She was the second child born to the loving parents, Eugene and Lorna (Drafz) Hackman, and the sister to David Carl and Christa June.

Jewell grew up in the Tampico Area and was a graduate of Brownstown Central High School, class of 1969. During the summer after her graduation, she met the love of her life, David H. Ratekin.  Before Jewell was able to get married, David was called to serve in the US Army. After David's discharge, they were united in marriage on April 15, 1972, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brownstown. This union of over 50 years were blessed with two children, Jacob and Rachel.

Jewell was a devoted wife, mother and Grandma to her family. She loved to spend time with them, and her greatest joy was being a grandma to her grandkids.  Jewell was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the choir and would often sing solos during worship. She had a servant soul and would serve in the church where she was needed. Jewell was also an essential business partner. She worked with David’s Snap-On Tool business. She loved working with David and would help call on their clientele while he was on the road making sales.  Jewell later went to work at Schneck Hospital in the bookkeeping department and went to work at Lincare until her retirement.

She leaves a legacy of love with her family, her beloved husband David Ratekin of Brownstown, children, Jacob Ratekin of Dallas, TX, and Rachel White and her husband Benjiman of Brownstown, three grandchildren, Breanna Wheeler and her husband Alex of Vallonia, Zac White of Brownstown, and Jacob White of Brownstown, and a great-grandson Winston Kole Wheeler, brother David Hackman and his wife Sandra of Brownstown, and sister Christa Ehret and her husband Alan of Brownstown and brother-in-law Bruce Harter of Indianapolis
