John Steven Combs

John Steven Combs, of Vallonia, passed away unexpectedly at the home on September 19, 2023. He was 68 years old.

John entered this life on April 5, 1955, in Seymour, Indiana. He was the only child born to the late Charles and Ines (Hawn) Combs. John grew up in Jackson County and was a graduate of Brownstown Central High School, Class of 1973.

On September 6, 1978, he was united in marriage to Peggy (Acton) Combs. This union of over 45 years was blessed with three children, John, and twins, Clint and Carrie. He was a husband, father, and Grandpa.  John was an avid remote control enthusiast. He would spend his free time building and repairing his RC collection of cars, trucks, planes, helicopters and rockets. Of all of these, his rockets were his favorite. He was a member of the Tripoli Rocket Club of America.

John worked as a mechanic, and civilian worker for Camp Atterbury mobilizing and demobilizing the units.  He also drove a truck for a number of years, and even went into the car repo industry for a short time.

He leaves his memories to be cherished with his family, his wife of 45 years, Peggy Combs, children, John Combs and his wife Amie, Carrie Spaulding and her husband Brad, and Clint Combs and his wife Amanda, seven grandchildren, Alex Thompson and his wife Heaven, Jack Combs and his wife Emma, Wyatt Combs, Ariana Spaulding, Aaliya Spaulding, Charlee Combs, and Maverick Combs, and two great grandchildren Kaycee and River, and a mother-in-law Nina Richardson.

A private gathering of friends and family will take place at a later date.
