Lester Elmer Wingler, of Medora, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 2, 2021 at Seymour Crossing, with his loving family by his side. He was 83.
Lester entered this life on October 4, 1937 in Washington County to the late Frank and Celia (Robbins) Wingler. He was the younger brother to Marie and the older brother to Gene. In Indianapolis, Lester was united in marriage to Elaine (Smith) Wingler. She survives at the home.
He served in the US Army and was stationed at Hawaii. After his service Lester and Elaine settled in Medora where they raised a son, Jeffrey.
Lester was a devoted husband, loving father, Grandpa, and a Papaw to those who loved him. He was a very strong willed gentleman who loved God. He was a member of the Medora Wesleyan Church, and attended every Sunday with elaine. He enjoyed racing, sitting on his porch watching the neighborhood, playing cards, and most of all spending time with his beloved family.
Lester worked for a few of the local farms before going to work at the Golden Foundry in Columbus. After leaving the foundry he still felt the calling to work at a farm. He continued farming until his retirement.
He leaves a legacy of love with his wife of 60 years, Elaine Wingler of Medora, Jeff Wingler of Medora, four grandchildren, Tiara Drake and her husband David of Brownstown, Kaydi Wingler of Brownstown, Jeffrey Wingler and his wife Savannah of Seymour, and Allison Wingler of Seymour, four great-grandchildren Katelyn Drake, Mackenzie Drake, Keira Drake, Layla Wingler, and Bentley Wingler.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Jones, brother Gene Wingler, and a granddaughter Mackayla Wingler.
A Celebration of Lester’s life will be at Medora Wesleyan Church on Friday March 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Skip Breeden officiating. Burial will follow at Vallonia Cemetery.
