Lida Robertson Obituary

Lida Jane Robertson, of Medora, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of April 25, 2023, at IU Health of Bedford. She was 92 years old.

Lida Jane entered this life on September 25, 1930, in Winchester, Kentucky. She was the first daughter of sixteen children born to Pleas and Jannie (Ginter) Abner. She grew up in Medora. She was a graduate of Medora Community Schools, Class of 1948. She was united in marriage to Samuel Wallace Robertson, he preceded her in 1974. From this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Jannie.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Lida had a serving soul. She learned how to be a seamstress.  When the school needed uniforms, she would step up. She made the cheerleading outfits, would make sure sports players had their letters stitched on the jackets, and made the costumes for the junior and senior plays. She loved to serve her Medora School.

Lida Jane started her working career at Excello Shirt Factory and retired after 25 years. She developed an understanding of running a business. Lida Jane and her husband, Wallace would start the Medora Landfill. This would later become Rumpke Landfill. She would join up with her brother, David, and they started a company, L & M Trucking. This would grow to a fleet of 17 trucks hauling eggs for Rose Acres. They would later sell the company. She was not one to sit still for long, she started the Free Spirit Campground in Bedford. She retired from running the campground and went and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant license and served families for 20 years before officially retiring.  This would free up her time to relax and make quilts for her families and friends.

Her survivors include her daughters, Barbara Hodges of McDonough, GA and Jannie Ashley of Bedford, a son, Joe Campbell and his wife Betty of Medora, three grandchildren, Christian Baldwin and her husband Brad, Wallace Ashley and his wife Carrie, and Dennis Ashley, two brothers, David Abner of Norman, and Paul Abner of North Carolina,  and four sisters, Mary Lou Sharer of Columbus, IN, Patty Nelson of California, Renatta Wilcox of Bedford, IN and Carolyn Thompson and her husband James of Bedford, IN, and lots of nieces and nephews

She was preceded by her parents, eight brothers and one sister.
