Mary Kathryn (Bowden) Sturgill

Mary Kathryn Earl Sturgill, of Seymour, formerly of Medora passed away on the early morning of July 18, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 75 years old.

Mary entered this life on July 9, 1947 in Linton, Indiana. She was the daughter of Chris and Lillian (Darkis) Bowden.  She was a graduate of Medora Community Schools, Class of 1965.  On August 27, 1965, in Lawrence County she was united in marriage to Franklin Earl. He preceded Mary on April 19, 2010.  From this union of over 44 years, they were blessed with a son Franklin Chris.

Mary found love again with her lifetime friend Fred Sturgill. They were united in marriage on July 23, 2011 at the Vallonia Baptist Church.

Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Grandma. She was a member of Medora Christian Church. Mary was a waitress for many years. She waitressed at Medora Covered Bridge Café and at the Medora Dairy Bar.

Mary leaves a legacy of love with her husband Fred Sturgill of Seymour, son Frank Earl and his wife Paige of Medora, three grandchildren, Teia Thomas of Medora and Emy Allen and her husband Eddie of Medora, and Shepard Earl of Medora  and two honorary grandchildren, Kelsey (McCammon) Hall and her husband John and Carly McCammon, three step-sons, Steve Sturgill of Leesville, Bill Sturgill of Seymour, John R. Sturgill of Washington, and step-grandchildren, Andrea Merritt of North Vernon and Nic Merrit and his fiancé Tiffany Robbins of Seymour, and Eli McClusky of Lawrence County, six great-grandchildren, Kyra, Kymber, and Vayden Allen, Raelyn Robbins, Aiden Merritt, and Miles Hall.

She was preceded by her parents and a brother Ricky Bedwell.

Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday July 22, 2022 at 11:00 am at Medora Christian Church with Pastor Claude Fouts officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at Medora Christian Church on Thursday July 21, 2022, from    4:00 – 8:00 pm and after 10:00 on Friday until time of the service.

Memorials may be written in Mary’s name to “Hope” Medora goes Pink.
