Omer Hackman, of Brownstown, passed away in the early morning of February 26, 2021 at IU-Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 91.
Omer entered this life on October 13, 1929 in Jackson County. He was the son of Amos and Katie (Duwe) Hackman, and the brother to Eugene, Hubert, Earl, Leon, Bill, and Lois. Omer grew up in the Grassy Fork Township and has always lived with in a half-mile of where he was born, except for the two years that he served in the US Army. After returning from his duties, he met his beloved Alvona. The first time he met her Omer knew that she was his future wife. On June 17, 1956 Omer married Alvona Begley at St. John’s Lutheran Church Sauers. This union was blessed with two children Jeff and Darla. Omer was a devoted husband, loving father and Grandpa.
Omer was a master carpenter. He and Alvona built their own house that they both still reside. He was also involved with building several houses in Brownstown. Omer worked as a farm machinery mechanic at Cordes Hardware for 40 years and Hunley Sales and Service for over 20 years. The local farmers would call him at all hours of because when Omer fixed something, he fixed it right. Omer was farmer and stayed very active helping with day to day activities around his farm.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Brownstown. He served as a elder and on other various offices of the church.
Omer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alvona Hackman, son, Jeff Hackman and his wife Paula of Brownstown, and daughter Darla Hackman Abosch and her husband Gary of Bel Air, Maryland, three grandchildren, Jennifer Lockhart and her husband Patrick of Sellersburg, Daniel Hackman of Brownstown, Elizabeth Abosch of Champaign, IL, a great grandchild, Lennon Lockhart, brothers, William (Bill) Hackman of Seymour, Leon Hackman of Brownstown, and a sister Lois Sommers of Brownstown.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene Hackman, Hubert Hackman, and Earl Hackman.
Funeral Service will be held at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeremy Yeadon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 4:00- 7:00 PM on Tuesday March 2, 2021 at Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown, and on Wednesday after 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be written in Omer’s name to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Building Fund
