Richard Lee Downs, of Medora, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on the evening of July 7, 2021. He was 77 years old.
Rick entered this life on July 4, 1944, in Seymour, Indiana. He was the seventh of ten born to the loving parents of William O. and Lora Marie (Robertson) Downs. On June 29, 1963, in Brownstown, Indiana he married Linda (Price) Downs. This union of 58 years was blessed with five children, Kathy, Stacy, Darin, Joetta, and Jason.
Rick was baptized into the Lutheran Faith and attended the Brownstown Christian Church. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a hugging Papaw. He worked at Arvin of Columbus for 10 years and then started Downs Garage of Medora. He ran this for 50 years and the last 25 years with his son Jason. Rick Loved to work and restore cars from the 1950’s. His favorite was his 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air. With his love of working on cars, Rick helped many families of the Medora community with their car problems.
He leaves a legacy of love with his wife Linda Downs of Medora, children, Kathy Downs of Seymour, Stacy Downs and his wife Nikki of Brownstown, Darin Downs of Norman, Joetta Pollert and her husband Richard of Seymour, and Jason Downs and his wife Crissy of Brownstown, twelve grandchildren, Justin Elliott, Codi Martinez, Bryan Elliott, Sharlie Douglas, Haley Mills, Jenna Downs, Brennyn Pollert Roby, Alaysha Pollert, Grainger Pollert, Addison Downs, Brody Downs, Tayton Walters, and Kyler Downs, several great-grandchildren, and a sister Patricia Walkos of Columbus, and several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Mildred Sharbono, Carol Gonzales, Marilyn DeHart, Judy Downs, and Stella Ingram, and three brothers, William Elliott, John Downs, and Jerry Downs.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 10, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home of Medora with Mitch Patrick officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until time of the service on Saturday.
