Robert "Bob" Brooking Obituary

Robert Brooking, a Marine, passed away peacefully at his home in Leesville on the evening of May 4, 2021 with his family by his side. He was 78.

Bob entered this life on August 23, 1942 in Henryville, Indiana. He was one of eight children born to the late Paul and Clara (Burford) Brooking. Bob grew up in Clear Spring before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1961. This Marine served in the Marine Corp Military Police in both active duty and reserve duty. On April 7, 1963 in San Te, Califiornia, Bob married the love of his life Janet Sue (Stabler) Brooking. She survives at the home. From this union of over 58 years, Bob and Sue were blessed with both a son, Robert Winton and daughter Marcella Elizabeth.

Bob was a dedicated Marine, a devoted husband, a loving father, Papaw, and a man of Christian Faith and attended Heltonville Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 33.

Bob worked at Westinghouse, Otis Elevator, and retired from the GM Foundry in Bedford after 32 years of working as a tool and die maker.  Bob was an active camper during the warm seasons, and if he wasn’t camping, he would be found out in his wood shop building projects using his scroll saw.

He leaves those to cherish his memories, wife, Sue Brooking of Leesville, children Bob Brooking and his wife Tina of Brownstown, and Marcella Edwards and her husband Jim of Heltonville, grandchildren, James Cody Edwards and his wife Ashland, Bret Cory Edwards, three brothers, Carl Brooking and his wife Phyllis of Tunnelton, Gary Brooking and his wife Susie of Bedford, and Louis Brooking and his wife Paula of Norman.
