William (Bill) Thomas Burnside III

William Thomas (Bill) Burnside III, age 72, of Freetown, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital of Indianapolis with his loving family by his side.  Bill was born on June 15, 1947, in Seymour, IN.  He was the son of the late Bernard L & Betty J. (Persinger) Burnside.  Bill was a 1965 graduate of Brownstown Central High School and a 1974 IU graduate.  He was the owner of Burnside Insurance for 34 years before his retirement in 2017.  Bill spent most of his life in Freetown.  He attended United Methodist Church.  On June 5, 1971, he married Mary Katherine (Kate) Burnside.  Bill & Kate were blessed with 48 years together and this union was blessed with two children a daughter Lyla Claire and a son William Thomas IV.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Kate, a son W.T. (Jennifer) Burnside IV, a son-in-law Drew McGlinchey, three grandchildren; Jalen Davis Curry, Josslyn Kate Burnside & Barbara Grace McGlinchey.  A sister Marijane (Jeff) Smallwood and Sister in law Margo Burnside, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter Lyla Claire McGlinchey on December 5, 2017; his parents and a brother, Warner L. Burnside. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Freetown United Methodist Church with Pastors Dave Ison and Bill Teegarden officiating.  Family and friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Memorial Services have been entrusted to Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be written to “100 voices of Hope” in memory of Bill’s daughter, Lyla Claire; Freetown United Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.
